WANO PEER REVIEW AT THE ARMENIAN NPP

A peer review (PR) of the Armenian NPP was conducted by the WANO Moscow Centre within the period of 25 August-9 September, 2022.

The team of experts was led by Andrey Prokhodtsev, the WANO MC Support Mission Program Manager, and the team included nuclear power industry representatives from 7 countries of the world, namely Belarus, Bulgaria, Iran, Russian Federation, Slovak Republic, France and Czech Republic.

The purpose of the review was to assess the plant performance in terms of safe and reliable operation, including identification of strengths and areas for improvement, in compliance with the WANO document «Performance Objectives and Criteria» (PO&C 2019-1).

In the course of the PR observations of the plant activities, documentation review and interviews with the plant personnel were conducted in a traditional way and it helped the experts to understand the state of the plant performance. Besides the fundamental areas, the implementation status of the recommendations made with respect to the SOERs, as well as the nuclear safety culture were assessed.

At the final stage of the review Ramil Galiev, Deputy General Director of the Rosenergoatom Concern JSC joined the work as an industry advisor.

During the final meeting the experts presented the results of the review, discussed the causes and contributors of the identified issues. The peer review team leader outlined that the work was conducted in an atmosphere of open interaction and professional attitude. At the end of the meeting Andrey Prokhodtsev handed the PR preliminary report and a plaque over to the plant management.

The ANPP management thanked for the work performed and expressed confidence that the PR results will contribute to the improvement of the plant performance.
